When JPG is the right target
Converting a vector to JPG makes sense when the artwork is destined for somewhere that wants small, universally readable photographs: an email attachment, a marketplace listing, a system that rejects both SVG and PNG. JPG is the most widely supported image format there is, and for artwork with gradients and photographic fills it produces smaller files than PNG.
The important caveat is transparency. JPG has no alpha channel, so any transparent area in the SVG is filled with white during conversion. A logo drawn to sit on a coloured background will end up in a white box. If that matters, and for logos it usually does, convert to PNG instead.
Sharp edges and compression artefacts
Most vector artwork is flat colour with hard edges, and that is precisely the content JPG handles worst. Lossy compression produces faint halos along high-contrast boundaries, and they are most visible around text and thin lines. Keep the quality setting high, 90% or above, when converting icons, wordmarks or line art, or use PNG, which stores those edges exactly.
