Paste your text, choose a voice, adjust the speed and pitch if you want to, and press play. The speech is produced by your own device using the voices already installed on it.

Why the voices differ from device to device

This tool uses your browser's built-in speech engine rather than a cloud service, so the available voices come from your operating system. Windows, macOS, Android and iOS each ship their own set, and the same text can sound noticeably different across them. Chrome on desktop typically offers additional network voices; Safari and mobile browsers usually offer the system ones.

The practical consequence is that a voice you like on your laptop may not exist on your phone. If a particular voice matters, check availability on the device you will actually use.

What it is good for

• Proofreading. Hearing your own writing read aloud exposes clumsy sentences and missing words far more reliably than reading it again silently.
• Accessibility, for anyone who finds listening easier than reading, including people with dyslexia or visual impairment.

Frequently asked questions

Can I download the audio as an MP3?

No. The browser speech engine plays sound directly and does not expose a recordable file. Producing a downloadable file requires a cloud service, which would mean uploading your text.

Is my text sent to a server?

The text is passed to your device's speech engine. Most voices run entirely offline; some browsers offer higher-quality network voices that process text remotely, so choose a local voice if that matters to you.

Why is no voice listed?

Some systems load voices lazily. Reload the page, and on Linux check that a speech engine is installed.

Which languages work?

Whichever your device has voices for. Adding a language pack in your OS settings adds it here.
